Born in East London, Darryl was inspired to try snowsports after watching Cool Runnings and the Winter Olympics in the 1990’s.
A dry ski slope in Beckton (aka Beckton Alps) was the only local facility to learn but was closed in 2001.
In his late 20’s, Darryl learnt to snowboard whilst in Avoriaz, France and instantly fell in love with the sport. However, he noticed a lack of diversity due to the low number of participants from a similar background and ethnicity.
In 2017, Darryl launched Urban Shredderz with the aim of encouraging people of pan-African heritage and urban communities to participate in snowsports.
